Current Volunteer Needs


Description: To provide free dental care to clients, duties range from performing routine check-ups to surgical operations. Dentists provide chair side health information.

Time: Weekdays except for Friday.

Location: Wellness Center at 1684 Brownswood Rd.

Yes, I Can! Summer Camp

Description: Volunteers will serve as ‘counselors’ during the Yes I Can! Summer camp. Duties include, but are not limited to: leading the children in activities, assisting with preparation for breakfast and lunch, monitoring the children’s behavior, assisting as a reading buddy, and supporting the program supervisor. Teaching or tutoring experience is preferred. In addition, a love for working with kids, the ability to lead a small group activity and to be able to take initiative to work with the kids as the need arises. Lastly, Yes I Can! Summer camp volunteers will take a Darkness to Light training.

Time: 9:00a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday-Friday from June 12 to July 14th

Location: Johns Island site at 1684 Brownswood Rd.

Computer Tutor

Description:Volunteers will teach adults basic computer and typing skills.Volunteers must have advanced computer skills and knowledge. Prior teaching or tutoring experience preferred.

Time:Mondays from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm.

Location:Neighborhood House at 77 America St.

Saturday Volunteer Group Opportunity

Description:Our downtown site, the Neighborhood House, participates in the Fields to Families program. This program provides fresh produce gleaned from the Saturday farmers market (Marion Square) for our lunch program clients the following Monday. We are in need of groups of 4-5 volunteers to help gather produce donations and transport them to the Neighborhood House on 79 America Street. This is a 3-4 hour time commitment. There are various Saturday dates to be filled between May 2017 and November 2017.

Time:Various Saturday afternoons for 3-4 hours

Location:Neighborhood House at 79 America St.

Math and/or English Tutor

Description:Volunteers will tutor an adult student in the subjects of Math and/or English in preparation for the TEAS test. This is an entrance test for nursing school.

Time:Flexible based on the volunteer and student's availability

Location:Neighborhood House at 79 America St.

Substitute Volunteers

Description:Can't commit to a regular volunteer schedule? We are in need of volunteers who can serve as substitutes for our food/clothing rooms and front desk receptionist.
